Annual Conference

KTB Conference Header Email 0118b

We are excited to invite interested attendees to this year's conference in Georgetown, Texas June 11-13

Keep Texas Beautiful is a network of dedicated Texans working together to make our state the best place to live, work and play. We equip local partners and affiliates with the tools they need to build vibrant, engaged communities. Founded in 1967, Keep Texas Beautiful has 50 years of experience deploying resources for local clean-up, recycling, and youth engagement efforts. Everything we do is focused on mobilizing volunteers to take action across the state. What if we focused that action on building better places?
Placemaking inspires people to collectively reimagine and reinvent public spaces as the heart of every community.  At this year’s conference, we’re examining how strengthening the connection between people and the places they share helps communities large and small shape their public realm in order to maximize the value of the places they work and play, together. Join us at this year’s annual conference – we’re excited to do things differently, together.

  • Conference Keynote

We are pleased to welcome Allison Orr as this year's keynote speaker.

    Allison Orr, Forklift Danceworks

Allison Orr Forlkift DanceworksFrom sanitation workers to firefighters, Venetian gondoliers to power linemen, Allison Orr creates award-winning choreography with unlikely performers. Inspired by the beauty and virtuosity in the practiced, habitual movement of labor, Allison’s dances feature the often-overlooked choreography of work that sustains our everyday lives. Building on her background in anthropology and social work, over the past 20 years Allison has honed a methodology of ethnographic choreography that engages community members as coauthors and performers in the creation of large-scale civic spectacles. Allison’s work has played to audiences of 60 to 6,000+, been commissioned and supported by numerous presenters and funders including the Fusebox Festival, the Kyoto Arts Center, the MAP Fund, New England Foundation for the Arts, Engaging Dance Audiences/Dance USA, the NEA, the City of Austin, TX; and the City of Venice, Italy. Allison received an MFA in Choreography in 1998, studied with mentors Deborah Hay and Liz Lerman, is a Distinguished Fellow at Wesleyan University, and was recently named a 2018 USA Artist Doris Duke Fellow, one of 45 artists nationally to receive this award. Allison is founder and Artistic Director of Austin-based Forklift Danceworks, where she collaborates with a team of artists including fellow choreographer Krissie Marty, designer Stephen Pruitt, and composer Graham Reynolds.
